Enjoying Life, No Matter What

Enjoying life, no matter what.

I bought a pool pass last week.  It was a big deal for me.  After years of wishing I had a convenient place to go swimming during those lazy summer afternoons, I finally researched my options and did something about it.  No more do I have to wish I had a place to go and swim.  I can simply just go and swim.

At this point in my life, I’m prioritizing fun and enjoyment.  I’m prioritizing celebrating any reason there is to celebrate and doing the things I actually want to do.  I realize that I’ve spent a lot of my life waiting.  Waiting till I’m less busy.  Waiting till my to-do list is done.  Waiting till I’m less tired and I have more energy.  Waiting till I can figure out that problem I’ve been trying to solve.  I’ve spent a lot of years exerting all my energy into the mundane tasks of life, until I have none left to do the things that make me feel alive and fill me with joy.

Let’s stop waiting around.  A shift of focus is in order.  Many of us try to arrive at the life we have dreamed of by focusing really hard on everything that has been holding us back, the problems, the bills, our fears, our insecurities, our limitations, our disqualifications, you get the idea.  We narrow our focus to everything that is not working in our favor, often to the point that we can’t see anything else.  I think it’s time to try something different.  Let’s focus on filling our lives, our time and our energy with the things that make us smile, the things that excite our passions.  Let’s acknowledge the fact that our lives aren’t perfect, but we get to live them anyways!  Let’s narrow our focal point to what’s good and amazing and wonderful in our lives and seek to fill more of our time with those things.  Let’s stop waiting around till one day when and start making room for those things we have always dreamed about, trusting that everything that has caused us to hesitate before will have no choice but to move over and make way for all the good that’s pouring into our lives.

Buy the pool pass.  Make space for things that bring you joy.  Don’t wait for one day if.  Make that day now.

This is the day that the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it.  (Ps. 118:24)
