I recently came across a quote by Joyce Meyers that said, “We are concerned to pray for little things, but everything is little to God.” I have been walking in relationship with Jesus for almost 20 years and I am still trying to wrap my head around how much God cares about me, even down to the smallest details of my life. It’s easier to understand why He would get involved in the big stuff, you know, who we marry, what school we go to, what career we have, etc. But when it comes to the little things that cause our hearts to leap or a slight smile to form at the corner of our lips, it’s harder for us to imagine that a God that’s bigger than the universe would have the time to pay attention to those things. But He does.
I was thinking about a conversation I had with my best friend once about a job interview she went on. That conversation could have taken 5 minutes. I could have asked her how it went and she could have said something like, “It went really well! I think I got the job,” or, “It went okay. I guess we’ll see!” I don’t remember quite how long we discussed that interview but it went for way longer than 5 minutes. She told me how she found the application. She told me what her thought process was. She told me when they had called her in for the interview. She told me how she looked for the perfect outfit and pair of shoes to wear the day before. She told me what the interview itself was like, along with the interviewer. She told me the details. And I wanted to hear them, because we are in relationship. I wanted to hear what shoes she wore, because I knew it was important to her. She does the same for me. She has heard countless stories that at times go on for hours, even sometimes stories she has heard before, and she listens because she knows that in that moment, I need someone to share my heart with.
And I thought to myself, “If my best friend cares about the smallest details, why would I think God would feel any differently?”
I remembered another time when I was in high school and I was walking to my friend’s house. At the time, I had a crush on this boy that I knew. I was day dreaming about what it would be like for this particular guy to pull up alongside me and offer me a ride and how awesome that would be. I wasn’t praying, I was merely thinking. Literally, in that moment, I heard a friendly beep behind me. There the guy was. He rolled down his window and offered me a ride, which I gladly accepted. This had never happened before and it never happened again. In fact, I never even saw the guy passing in traffic. We lived in different towns. So why did God do that? It didn’t result in anyone’s salvation or deliverance. It wasn’t a super spiritual moment. It didn’t have any large implications for my life. The guy wasn’t my future husband or anything. But for that moment, it made me smile. God read my thoughts and wanted me to know that He was listening.
He cares. He cares about the big things and He cares about the little things. He’s our daddy and He loves us with a good daddy kind of love. He loves every facet of our personalities, even the quirks. He celebrates every accomplishment both big and small. His heart beams with pride over us and when we mess up and fall down, He uses it as a teaching moment to nurture us, to guide us and to help us become brave and strong. His love is in the details. The little things. And He delights in every opportunity to make us smile, even in the smallest of ways.
You may be wondering about the snowflake theme of this post. Well, I stumbled across an interesting point made on Facebook that I think is worth mentioning here at the end of my post. If God would put this much detail into a snowflake that will melt in a mere moment, imagine how much importance He places on the details that make up you and your life.
“What is the value of your soul to God? Could your worth be defined by any amount of money? God doesn’t abandon or forget even the small sparrow that He has made. How then could he forget or abandon you? What about the seemingly minor issues in your life? Do they matter to God? Of course they do! So you never need to worry, for you are more valuable to God than anything else in the world. (Luke 12:6-7 TPT)
