No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (Rom. 8:37)
In a previous post entitled Removing Every Obstacle, I briefly mentioned the importance of knowing who we are in Christ, so that we will be able to experience the abundant life that God has promised us. Oh, yes. This one is so important. Recently, I have been reflecting on my own understanding of my identity in Christ. For me, this has been a season of Jesus introducing me to myself. It has also been my prayer that God would continue to reveal to me who I truly am and all that He has called me to be. In some ways, I know myself better than anyone else. I know my thoughts, my dreams, my hopes and desires, as well as my weaknesses and shortcomings. But I have begun to recognize that in other ways, my friends, family members and even strangers I meet for the first time know things about me that I haven’t discovered yet. They can at times see strengths in me and qualities about me that I’m not fully confident in. Because let’s face it. It’s easier sometimes to see someone else through eyes of the Father than it is to see ourselves.
I remember there was a time when I used to watch all the music awards shows much more than I do now. I remember feeling amused every time Taylor Swift would win a big award because she always looked genuinely shocked and surprised, even despite the fact that she seemed to win the awards every single time. As children of God, we shouldn’t be taken aback when we receive favor or are held in high esteem by those around us. We shouldn’t be surprised when our strengths and our Jesus qualities shine through. We shouldn’t be shocked when we are chosen to do great things. The fact that we are God’s children and He has chosen to give us His DNA makes us pretty awesome.
I know this is for me, but I know it’s for all of us. It’s time that we allow Jesus to introduce us to ourselves. It’s time we get to really know who we are. It’s time to let go of the labels we have allowed to define us and only accept the names that our Father has chosen for us. It’s time to stop relying on others to tell us who we are and walk with confidence, understanding that what we carry on the inside is so much greater than we can ever understand or comprehend. It’s time to start living like we believe what He has said about us and to stop shrinking back from being great. It’s time for us to know who we are, so we could help others to discover who they truly are in Him.
Who are you, sister and brother in Christ? You are a world changer, a difference maker. You are strong and you are capable of so much more than you think. You carry the life-changing, resurrection power of God’s Spirit inside of you. And it’s time you knew it.
